North Tama hands Trojets fifth consecutive loss
TRAER – Putting the ball in the basket continued to be the biggest issue for the Northeast Hamilton girls’ basketball team here last night.
The Trojets (2-9, 1-8 ISC) knocked down just nine shots and were never a serious threat in a 41-24 Iowa Star Conference loss to North Tama (4-8, 4-5 ISC).
“We just struggled to shoot the ball and put it in the hoop,” NEH head coach Bret Schutt said. “Right now the girls just need to start believing in themselves.”
North Tama led by six points (11-5) after the first quarter and extended the cushion to nine (16-7) at the break. The Redhawks pushed their advantage to double digits in the third period and led by 14 (30-16) going into the final 8 minutes.
Jenn Willems and Jennifer Jeffers both scored seven points in the loss, the Trojets’ fifth straight. Sarah Elm and Kaylee Massman added five each.
North Tama held Molly Greenfield – the Trojets’ leading scorer – without a point.
Josie Youel led the Redhawks with 13 points and Allison Zobel canned three 3-pointers en route to 11.
NEH will be in Garwin to face GMG on Friday.
