Black and white
The Webster City Chamber of Commerce will reign in the new year at their annual gala meeting on Jan. 28 at 6 p.m. in St. Thomas Aquinas Parish Center.
Since the formation of the chamber, their bylaws call for an annual meeting near the start of the new year. At the gala meeting, outgoing chamber president Carrie Fitzgerald and incoming chamber president Jeanne Hill will review 2012 and preview the new year over dinner.
Fitzgerald said the dinner will include many items. Those include roast pork, beef pot roast, a number of sides and desserts. Beer and wine will also be available. The theme of “It’s as Simple as Black and White” asks attendees to dress for that color scheme.
Motivational speaker Deadra Stanton will attend the gala, and present her program, “Don’t Shoot Skinny Rabbits.” Fitzgerald said Stanton owns a company called Creative Communications and was an english teacher in the Mason City area for 35 years.
“She’s a great speaker,” Fitzgerald said. “She has a humorous, upbeat presentation and talks about not sweating the small stuff to get motivated for 2013.”
200 mystery box prizes will be available at the gala. Fitzgerald said the neatly wrapped boxes contain numbers that correspond with prizes on a prize table at the event. She said the mystery boxes offered a more interesting way to hold a raffle.
Sponsors for the event include Van Diest Supply Company, The Executive Inn, Black Hills Energy and Iowa Central Community College.
