Hawks drop Senior Night dual to HOIC rival PCM

JEWELL – Prairie City-Monroe won the first five weights to build a 28-0 lead and then hung on late to knock off South Hamilton in a Heart of Iowa Conference dual meet here last night.

The Hawks (5-8, 3-4 HOIC) utilized three wins on the mat and four via forfeit to close the gap, but they fell one point short in a 38-37 loss to the Mustangs (7-5, 4-4 HOIC) on Senior Night.

PCM led 38-33 going into the final match. South Hamilton’s 152-pounder Max Reiter needed a pin, but wasn’t able to get Jade Coleman flat on the mat and he had to settle for an 11-3 major decision win.

Josh Lutter (285) and JD Rader (126) also picked up mat wins for the Hawks. Lutter stuck Trent Malone in 4:19 to end the Mustangs’ early run of five wins, and Rader – up from his usual spot in the lineup at 120 where he’s ranked No. 6 (Class 1A) – fended off Tristan Clark for a 7-5 win.

Charlie Reiter (106), Brian Greenfield (113), Brian Carroll (120) and Jordan Toillion (132) were forfeit winners.

PCM held a 17-16 edge in bonus points.

Both teams will travel to Des Moines on Saturday to compete in the HOIC tournament at Saydel High School. Competition will begin at 10 a.m.
