Hawks outscore CMB 16-4 in fourth quarter, take HOIC tilt 59-49
JEWELL – The South Hamilton boys’ basketball team needed a monstrous fourth quarter to put Collins-Maxwell-Baxter away here last night.
Trailing 45-43 after three quarters, the Hawks outscored the Raiders 16-4 over the final 8 minutes to capture the Heart of Iowa Conference contest, 59-49.
South Hamilton (12-7, 11-5 HOIC) owned a 19-5 scoring advantage at the free throw line and that was ultimately the difference.
Senior forward John Hegland led all scorers with 19 points, 17 coming in the first half to help stake the Hawks to a 33-32 lead at the intermission. Josh Doering finished with 12 points and Trevor Ullestad buried two of the team’s four 3-point baskets on his way to 11 points.
Lucas Olson rained in the other two 3s for six points.
Seth Balke (12) and Austin Moorman (10) reached double figures for CMB (4-15, 3-14 HOIC).
