First to 400
Longtime Webster City teacher and football coach Dick Tighe was honored on Tuesday at Webster City High School as the first Iowa football coach to reach the milestone of 400 career wins.
Tighe’s 400th win came during a 41-7 rout over Western Christian by the St. Edmond’s football team which he coaches.
After his victory last fall, Tighe told the Fort Dodge Messenger that, “I’m happy, but I could’ve never done this without all the good players I’ve had over the years. I’m not really sure what I’d do if I couldn’t coach anymore. (Reaching 400 career victories) is something I never even imagined.”
Tighe has a career record of 400-153-8 in 59 years on the sidelines as of his achievement.
He taught and coached at Webster City High School for more than 30 years.
