BOYS TENNIS: Experienced Lions take all 9 matches against Lynx

CLEAR LAKE – Experience on both of the singles’ and doubles’ courts powered Clear Lake to a 9-0 sweep of Webster City in a boys’ meet here yesterday afternoon.

The Lions dropped just 11 games in the nine matches and overpowered the Lynx (1-1) in singles to put the meet away early.

“Clear Lake is a good experienced team that is returning almost (its) entire lineup,” WCHS head coach Matt Manson said. “(We) didn’t give up and played hard … they have played a lot more tennis than we have, but we will continue to improve.”

The Lynx doubles team of Andrew Straw and Colin Hippen had the most success; they took four games off JJ Theobald and Ian Davis in a 10-4 loss at the No. 3 spot.

WCHS picked up several victories in the junior varsity meet. The doubles teams of Bryan Johnston and Ryan Godfredson, Avery Hopp and Cole Reigelsberger, and Jared Thome and Brian Ortiz were all 6-3 winners.

The Lynx will be at home on Thursday against Grundy Center. The WCHS girls’ team will also take on the Spartans on its home courts.
