Scout fundraising effort breaks record
Webster City residents didn’t hold back Saturday as local Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts canvassed town for their annual Scouting for Food and Pop Cans fundraiser. Residents were asked to leave non perishable food items and redeemable cans/bottles outside their front doors Saturday morning by 9 a.m. Scouts, parents and other volunteers spread out around town, picking up items and taking taking them to the fairgrounds for sorting. A record 21,200 cans and 1,460 food items were donated by residents. Can proceeds will go toward funding for the annual Hamilton County Cub Scout Day Camp, to be held this year June 28-29 at Briggs Woods. All food items were delivered to Upper Des Moines Opportunity to help local residents in need.
