TROJANS RUN AT ELDORA: Facing a large and tough field, the Northeast Hamilton boys’ track team finished 11th at Friday’s South Hardin Clary Invitational in Eldora.
The Trojans picked up eight top eight places and tallied 21.5 points. Gilbert (96) claimed the team title, followed by South Hardin (92), West Marshall (84), AGWSR Ackley (77.5) and Denver (76.5).
Tyler Smith showed his versatility and claimed three of the team’s individual places; he finished fourth in the 800-meter run (2:13.75), sixth in the 100 (12.56) and seventh in the 110 high hurdles (19.06).
Nick Jeffers added a fifth-place finish in the 400 (55.83), while Steven Smith completed the 3,200 in sixth (11:05.06).
The Trojans added points in three of the relays. They finished seventh in the 4×400 (3:47.10) and 4×800 (9:54.27), and eighth in the 1,600 medley (4:16.78).
TROJETS SCORE 15 POINTS AT BALLARD: Jennifer Jeffers scored in three individual events and helped a relay place as well for the Northeast Hamilton girls’ track team at Friday’s Ballard Invitational in Huxley.
Jeffers finished fourth in the discus (89 feet), and 400-meter dash (1:04.96), and she was sixth in the 800 (2:50.62).
Jeffers teamed up with Courtney Elsberry, Molly Greenfield and Andi Anderson to finish fourth in the 4×400 relay (4:48.04).
“We were just glad to have a nice meet under our belt,” NEH head coach Kacey Pruismann said after her team scored 15 points and placed sixth in Class B. “I liked our 4×400, but we will just play with a couple of things at our Meskwaki meet on Monday before we decide what the plan is for conference on Thursday.”
CMB won the meet with 168.
SH BOYS’ GOLF DROPS DUAL: The back half of the South Hamilton boys’ golf roster faltered at the Jewell Golf and Country Club on Friday, allowing Gilbert to sneak out of town with a 165-168 Heart of Iowa Conference dual victory.
Hawks’ junior Trevor Ullestad was the medalist with a 38, and Braxton Risetter shared the runner-up spot with the Tigers’ James Howell and Garret Jensen; all three shot rounds of 40.
Jordan Bowers added a 43 for the Hawks; Jacob Haugland and Chris Mogren carded 47s.
“We didn’t play our best and I think the kids know they need to shore it up,” South Hamilton head coach Mark Ullestad said.
South Hamilton will take part in the HOIC tournament today at the Tournament Club of Iowa in Polk City. Tee time is set for 9 a.m.
TROJAN GOLFERS 5th AT INVITE: Trevor Swenson’s 47 led the Northeast Hamilton boys’ golf team to a fifth-place finish at the Southeast Webster-Grand Invite on Friday at Oak Park Golf and Recreation in Dayton.
The Trojans carded a 218. Ogden took home the title from the six-team tournament with a 176.
Logan Seiser added a 55 for the Trojans. Jake Speicher (57) and Tristan Nicholson (59) completed the scoring.
Ogden’s Jimmy Rubin was the medalist, while teammate Hunter Longnecker was the runner-up. Both shot rounds of 42.
