Lynx boys own singles, down Bulldogs easily
WEBSTER CITY – A sweep of the six singles matches propelled the Webster City boys’ tennis team to an easy dual-meet victory over Hampton-Dumont yesterday afternoon at the WCHS courts.
The Bulldogs claimed two of the three doubles bouts, but that wasn’t enough as the Lynx took the meet by a 7-2 count.
“All of the singles played well,” WCHS head coach Matt Manson said. “Hampton has improved and we are also playing better than we have in the past few weeks.”
Blake Nelson and Andrew Straw were the most dominant for the Lynx in the Nos. 3 and 4 spots. Nelson blitzed Leonardo Ceja, 10-4, and Straw made quick work of Allen Teggate, 10-2.
“Blake Nelson played consistent again (and) Andrew Straw played his best singles match of the year,” Manson said.
Christian Hippen rallied for a 10-7 win over Israel Rodriguez in the No. 1 battle. Other singles winners included Chris Pergande (10-7), Avery Hopp (10-7) and Ben Grimshaw (10-4).
Bryan Johnston and Ryan Godredson teamed up to give the Lynx their lone doubles triumph. They were 10-4 winners.
