Lions own Links, title; WCHS slips into 10th

WEBSTER CITY – It was a perfect day to golf – the temperature was in the mid-70s with little wind – for the 10 North Central Conference girls’ golf teams competing for the league championship yesterday at the Webster City Links.

Despite several inches of snow that blanketed the area a few days earlier, the 1910 Warren Dickinson designed golf course was in excellent shape.

Defending Class 3A state champion Clear Lake won the team title with a 376. Bishop Garrigan, the reigning 1A state champion, took the second spot with a 381.

Malorie Fischels of Clear Lake was the conference medalist with an 83. The runner-up honor went to Alexa Capesius of Bishop Garrigan with an 85.

Webster City placed 10th with a 488.

Hannah Harfst, Shannon Swon and Megan Gilbert all carded rounds of 120 for the Lynx, with Mollie Tague coming off the course with a 128.

Brittany Carlson added a 129.

WCHS will next see action on May 20 at the Westwood Golf Club in Newton for 3A regional competition.
