Pergande, doubles team win matches for WCHS boys at districts

FORT DODGE – Chris Pergande picked up a first-round singles victory, and the doubles team of Dilan Griffin and Bryan Johnston also advanced to the second round for the Webster City boys’ tennis team yesterday at Class 1A district meet.

Pergande lost the first set of his opener, but rallied to take the next two in a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over Brandon Holdgrafer of Iowa Falls-Alden.

“Chris had a great matchup,” WCHS head coach Matt Manson said. “Both kids played hard, but Chris was able to take the match because of his serve and composure.”

Pergande fell in the second round to Aplington-Parkersburg’s Aaron Van Dyke, 6-2, 6-1.

Griffin and Johnston dismantled South Hardin’s Ethan Balvanz and Austin Lycke, 6-0, 6-0. The Lynx tandem lost in straight sets in the next round.

Christian Hippen dropped his first-round singles match, as did the Lynx other doubles team of Blake Nelson and Andrew Straw.
