Lynx earn six at-large entries to state, Hawks snag two
WEBSTER CITY – The size of the area state track and field qualifiers increased on Saturday when the Iowa High School Athletic Association and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released the complete list of entrants.
In addition to the automatic qualifiers, an additional eight at-large entrants in each of the events were added in Class 2A and 3A.
The Webster City boys’ track team added three more qualifiers.
Cooper Jaycox earned a spot in the 3A 100-meter dash field. He placed fourth at Thursday’s State Qualifying Meet in Nevada, but goes to state seeded 12th out of the 24 qualifiers.
WCHS also pushed its 4×100 and 4×200 relays on to state. Jaycox, Nathan Nuehring, Tanner Hoveland and Cal Zahn comprise both relays.
They will join the six automatic qualifiers – Ethan Glenn in the 800, Lucas Poland in the 110 high hurdles, Boone Myers in the discus, and the 4×800 and distance medley relays.
The Lynx girls’ squad received 3A at-large bids for Kisston Thomas in the 100, Kaylee Schnathorst in the shot put and the shuttle hurdle relay of Schnathorst, Kenzie Garvey, Liz Wells and Hannah Myers.
Schnathorst automatically qualified in the 100 hurdles, as did Allie Flaws in the 100 and 200. Flaws will enter the state meet seeded fifth in both sprints.
The South Hamilton girls’ team saw both of its high jumpers – Alyssa Hegland and Eliana Lowry – added to the 2A field. The Hawks distance medley relay – Kali Lucas, Kaitlin Fisher, Allyson Ervin and Meghan Fisher – was an automatic qualifier.
Other area automatic qualifiers included South Hamilton’s Devin Howard in the boys’ 2A 100 and 200, as well as Triston Twedt in the 400 hurdles, and Northeast Hamilton’s Jennifer Jeffers in the girls’ 1A 800.
Howard is seeded second in the 100 and third in the 200. Twedt had the third-fastest hurdle qualifying time.
