Discover a ‘Taste of the World’

BLAIRSBURG – Northeast Hamilton sixth grade students are teaming up with All Culture’s Equal to celebrate “A Taste of the World” on Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the All Culture’s Equal office located at 1440 Second Street in Webster City.

The event is part of a four week study unit the student have been researching.

The students selected a country and conducted research about its culture, location, history, foods and geography, according to NEH teacher Sherry Leksell.

In addition, the students composed essays about their chosen country and developed Power Point presentations, said Leksell.

Students have also been working with teachers and community members to collect artifacts and decorations for the “A Taste of the World” event.

The event is open to the public and students will man different stations which reflect their country of interest.

“Most of these stalls will have one or two traditional foods to share with the public during the event,” said Leksell.

All Culture’s Equal has contacted several area families who are from foreign countries, said Leksell. They will also be available to visit with guests about their native countries.

The NEH students extended an invitation to the Webster City High School foreign exchange students from France and Germany.

“They, too, will be bringing displays and foods from their native countries to share with the public,” said Leksell.

The event is a casual affair with guests able to take a self-guided tour through the exhibit.

All Culture’s Equal has also invited several area families from Mexico and Laos to share foods and stories of their native countries.

“Leslie Kaufmann (of All Culture’s Equal) has been instrumental and helpful in working with us to develop what we hope will become a yearly event,” said Leksell.

The event is open to the public with a free-will offering.
