SH softball clipped by PCM, 8-2
MONROE – The usually potent South Hamilton offense was stuck in neutral for most of the night here on Friday, as the Hawks dropped their second Heart of Iowa Conference clash in three tries.
Prairie City-Monroe jumped out to an 8-0 lead after four innings and suffered only a brief hiccup in the Hawks’ half of the fifth en route to an 8-2 victory.
“They hit the ball hard and had some key hits when they had runners in scoring position,” South Hamilton head coach Laura Read said after her club dipped to 2-2 overall, 1-2 in the HOIC.
PCM (2-1, 2-0 HOIC) rattled off seven hits off pitchers Brittany Nicholson and Ady Wintermote.
Mustangs’ pitcher Payge Edwards surrendered just three hits. Tiffany Jacobson laced a pair of singles and Carly Swenson added one base knock.
The two teams combined to pile up nine errors.
South Hamilton will be at home this evening to take on Colfax-Mingo.
