KYL begins summer reading programs
The Kendall Young Library summer reading programs have begun and will continue through July 31.
Children ages 3 through those who have just finished fourth grade are intoved to Dig into Reading in the children’s department. The program will include chances to win prizes by reading books. There will also be crafts and special programs.
Preschool storytime will be held Tuesdays from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Archeologist Club, a storytime for children who just finished kindergarten through those finishing fourth grade, is set for Mondays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The Recycling Squad, for children who just finished kindergarten through those finishing fourth grade, will meet Thursdays from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Special events planned include an appearance on June 21 by Dan Wardell of IPTV’s Kid’s Clubhouse. He will present two programs at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Kids are encouraged to wear superhero capes to the program.
A program entitled Incredible Bats will be presented June 27 at 6:30 p.m. and is open to children, teens and adults. The Science Center of Des Moines will present “What’s Beneath Our Feet,” July 8 at 6:30 p.m. for kids and families.
The Blank Park Zoo will present a program on July29 at 6:30 p.m. for families.
Teens in grades 6 through 12 are invited to take part in weekly prize drawings and Teen Tuesdays. Teens will also be eligible to enter for a chance to win a Kindle Fire.
Adults will also have a chance to read books and win prizes. A Kindle Fire and other prize packs will be given in a drawing.
