INDIANS HAND TROJANS FIRST LOSS: Clarksville pitchers Bryce Jacobs and Zach Bergman combined to fan 13 Northeast Hamilton batters yesterday evening in a 10-0 Indians’ victory in Iowa Star Conference play in Blairsburg.

Bergman pitched the final five innings and sat down nine on strikes.

Clarksville (2-1, 2-0 ISC) rattled off nine hits and scored multiple runs in four frames.

“They’re a good ball club,” NEH head coach Chace Pruismann said of the Indians.

Logan Seiser had a double; Nick Jeffers, Trevor Klaver and Austin Smith all singled for the Trojans (2-1, 2-1 ISC).

Seiser took the loss on the bump. He struck out 10 while going the distance.

NEH will return home to face South Hamilton on Thursday at 5 p.m.

BIG INNING CARRIES NO. 9 CLARKSVILLE PAST TROJETS: No. 9-ranked (Class 1A) Clarksville scored all of its runs in the fourth inning and beat Northeast Hamilton, 7-1, yesterday evening in Williams.

The Indians (6-1, 3-0 ISC) piled up 11 hits and pitcher Kimberly Wedeking limited NEH (1-6, 1-1 ISC) to four while striking out 15.

“Take away the fourth inning and we win the ball game,” NEH head coach Natalie Ostheimer said. “Molly (Greenfield) pitched well, but we just have to put the hits together.”

Jennifer Jeffers supplied half of the Trojets’ offense. She had a single and RBI triple in the seventh inning.

Greenfield and Jenn Willems both singled.

The Trojets will be at home today against Eagle Grove at 5 p.m.

HAWKS DROP HOIC TILT: Colfax-Mingo scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to create enough breathing room against a South Hamilton rally at the Mike Penning Athletic Complex last night in Jewell.

The Hawks (2-5, 0-4 HOIC) scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but still felt short, 9-7.

Colfax-Mingo (5-3, 2-2 HOIC) rattled off 15 hits, six more than South Hamilton, off pitchers Josh Doering and John Hegland.

Hegland and Lucas Olson both lashed two hits in the loss. Olson drove in two runs.

Lane Heinlein supplied a single and double. Caleb Olson, Nathan McSparin and Justin Shepherd all added a single and RBI.
