Tigers score in 7th, nip SH softball, 2-1

JEWELL – Gilbert came through in the seventh inning with one run last night to break up a 1-1 tie and beat South Hamilton, 2-1, in a Heart of Iowa Conference softball game at the Mike Penning Athletic Complex.

South Hamilton (5-13, 2-9 HOIC) finished with just four hits – singles by Kayla Lucas, Brittany Nicholson, Kayla Carlson and Tiffany Jacobson. MacKenzie Busch drove in the team’s lone run in the third inning.

“It’s definitely frustrating,” Hawks’ head coach Laura Read said. “If we can’t score runs we’re not going to win very many games.”

Nicholson allowed just four hits in the pitching circle in the loss.
