Swenson’s clutch hit lifts SH past Tigerhawks

COLFAX – Carly Swenson made Colfax-Mingo pay here last night.

Clinging to a 2-1 lead, the Tigerhawks intentionally walked Brittany Nicholson in the seventh inning to get to Swenson, but it didn’t work out as planned.

Swenson ripped a two-RBI single into right field to send South Hamilton to a 3-2 Heart of Iowa Conference victory.

“Carly came up with a big hit at the end, which we haven’t been able to do a whole lot this year,” South Hamilton head coach Laura Read said.

MacKenzie Busch made a diving catch in right field and then fired to first for a double play in the bottom of the seventh to end it.

Nicholson, Busch and Ella Jans also had hits for the Hawks.

Adi Wintermote gave up five hits and struck out three in the circle. She didn’t allow any earned runs.

The Hawks (7-16, 3-10 HOIC) will host Saydel tonight at 7:30 p.m.
