Hawks win 5th straight
COLFAX – A four-run fourth inning propelled the South Hamilton baseball team to its fifth consecutive victory here last night, as the Hawks rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to topple Heart of Iowa Conference rival Colfax-Mingo, 5-2.
A two-run single off the bat of Justin Shepherd, and RBI singles by Hunter Griffin and John Hegland in the fourth put South Hamilton (8-9, 4-8 HOIC) in charge for good.
“I told the guys we’re playing like Mike Tyson in his prime … we’re delivering the knockout blows right now,” South Hamilton head coach Bret Bell said. “The thing I’m really happy with is how we’re staying composed.”
Trevor Ullestad added a sixth-inning RBI sac fly.
Lucas Olson and JD Rader both went 2-for-3 at the dish; Olson laced a double. Devin Howard, Lane Heinlein and Ullestad all singled.
Howard earned the win by going four innings on the mound. He struck out five.
Hegland went the final three innings to collect the save.
South Hamilton will be at home tonight against Saydel at 7:30 p.m.
