Ellsworth council hears about social host ordinance
ELLSWORTH – Shelly Lumsden from Community and Family Resources visited the regular monthly meeting of the Ellsworth City Council this week. She discussed possibly adopting a social host ordinance, which allows law enforcement to cite the individual who hosted underage drinking at a party on private property. The council took no action.
There were also numerous maintenance and property issues for the council to address, including Main Street maintenance.
Mayor Brett Hodnefield received an updated estimate for the cost of replacing sidewalks and grinding off and replacing the asphalt in the 1500 block of DeWitt Street. Street lights and water curb valves need to be replaced. Action on the matter was tabled.
An updated cost estimate for an electric system upgrade has been received. Poles and hardware will be replaced, and the substation will be rebuilt. The council plans to invite David Charles, the engineer from Shermco Industries, to attend the July council meeting to discuss the project.
Also, Pagel Window and Door will be invited to the same meeting to discuss window replacements for the community center.
In other business, a contract with Central Iowa Televising was approved. The cost is not to exceed $3,000 annually for the contract.
