Trojets struggle in regular season finale, fall to Dunkerton
DUNKERTON – Seven errors ruined any chance the Northeast Hamilton softball team had of ending the regular season with a victory here last night.
All of Dunkerton’s runs were unearned and the Red Raiders rolled to a 5-0 victory over the Trojets in Iowa Star Conference action.
“This is a pretty easy game. You catch, throw and play, and we didn’t do that,” NEH head coach Natalie Ostheimer said. “It wasn’t good. But I thought Molly (Greenfield) pitched one of her best games.”
Greenfield struck out six on the night.
Both teams finished with six hits, but Dunkerton (14-10, 7-5 ISC) committed only two errors and finished off the two-game season sweep.
The bottom of the order accounted for all of the NEH hits. Leah Meyer rattled off two singles; Lillian Chamness, Jaidyn Timm, Kim VanHouten and Kaylee Massman all had one.
NEH (9-17, 6-7 ISC) will spend the rest of the week getting prepared for the postseason. The Trojets will host Southeast Webster-Grand in a Class 1A regional first-round contest next Monday in Williams. The first pitch is set for 7 p.m.
The two teams split a doubleheader back on June 13 in Williams.
