No. 12 Lynx end regular season with 10th straight victory

ALGONA – Webster City’s dominant run through the North Central Conference ended with another thumping here Friday night.

The 12th-ranked Lynx, who had already sewn up the outright league title prior to taking the field, ended the regular season by blistering Algona Bishop Garrigan, 12-0 in 6 innings. They rocked Golden Bears’ pitcher Kristin Condoleon for 14 hits en route to their 10th consecutive victory.

WCHS has outscored its last 10 opponents by a combined margin of 69-11.

Clean-up hitter Mikaleh McCoy went 4-for-4 with two doubles and a run batted in; she also scored three runs. No. 5 hitter Maddie Anderson added three hits in four plate appearances and drove in two runs.

Kaylee Schnathorst and Kaitlyn Biere both laced doubles and collected one RBI. Hannah Myers and Allie Flaws both singled and drove in two runs, while Tiffany Constable and Abbey Fuhs singled and tallied an RBI.

WCHS (24-6, 17-1 NCC) took a 1-0 lead in the third inning and then battered the weary Condoleon over the final three frames. The Lynx scored four runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and five in the sixth.

Garrigan (13-17, 9-9 NCC), which lost 11 of its final 14 regular season games, managed just one hit off Biere, the Lynx senior right-hander who tossed her 14th shutout of the season. Biere struck out nine while lowering her league-best earned run average to 0.25.

Biere hasn’t yielded an earned run in her last eight outings in the circle.

WCHS will now set its sights on the second season – the postseason. The Lynx will open up Class 4A Region 2 play at home against Clear Lake in a quarterfinal on Thursday at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to Saturday’s semifinal against No. 6 Ballard in Huxley at 7 p.m. Ballard (24-9) is the defending 3A state champion.

WCHS beat Clear Lake (10-16) twice during the regular season, 13-0 and 8-0.
