Golden Bears pay Lynx back for earlier upset

ALGONA – Reece Wadle and company didn’t take the Webster City baseball team lightly this time around.

Far from it, actually.

Wadle pitched Algona Bishop Garrigan to an 11-0, 5-inning victory over the Lynx in North Central Conference play here Friday night. The Golden Bears avenged a 5-3 upset loss to WCHS back on June 6 when they were ranked in the Class 1A top 10.

“They were ready and primed from the opening batter,” WCHS head coach Troy Smock said. “After the game we didn’t really talk about it, we just said it was time to move on.”

Wadle offered up just one hit and one walk while striking out five in the complete-game victory.

Garrigan (22-11, 11-5 NCC) rattled off 11 hits, including home runs by Wadle, John Burns and Adam Hamilton. Wadle went yard to lead-off the bottom of the first inning and collected three RBIs in the contest. Burns and Hamilton both left the park in the second inning.

WCHS (7-15, 5-10 NCC), which has dropped four of its last five contests, avoided the no-hitter on a fifth-inning single off the bat of Dylan Fielder.

The Lynx will return home today to face NCC leader and second-ranked Clear Lake at 7:30 p.m.
