KYL board reviews policy
At Tuesday’s meeting of the Kendall Young Library Board of Trustees meeting, the board discussed several changes to policies at the library.
The most discussed item was a change to the confidentiality policy. Prior to Tuesday, the Library kept the records of an adult library cardholder confidential. However, adult library cards are given to anyone in sixth grade and older.
Library director Angie Martin-Schwarze said this policy created an issue when the parent of a child with an adult card called to check on the status of a checked out item. The library reviewed the current policy, and weighed the issues of both privacy and parental rights.
After much discussion, the board chose to take up a policy similar to the one used by WCCSD libraries. Now, a minor’s library records will be available to their parents until they are legally an adult.
The board also reviewed policies relating to patron conduct, usage of the meeting room and patron loan history, but no action was taken at the meeting.
