Robert Goehring, 83, Burlington, CT

Robert L. Goehring was called to the Lord Sunday morning July 7, 2013 with his family spiritually by his side, after a courageous battle with renal cancer at Country Side Manor in Bristol, CT.

Robert Leland Goehring was born September 11, 1929 to Ralph and Violet (Chalfant) Goehring at the Hamilton County Public Hospital in Webster City, IA.

Robert graduated from Stanhope High School in Stanhope, IA in 1950. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and served from 1950 to 1954. He proudly served aboard the USS Antietam air craft carrier.

Robert married Margaret T. Smith at Our Lady of Lourds Church in New York City on May 14, 1955.

Robert worked at Aetna Life & Casualty Insurance Company in Hartford, CT for 33 years as a HVAC mechanic. After retirement he enjoyed working at Big Lots in Bristol, CT as an inventory pricing manager. He loved visiting with his friends at McDonalds in Unionville, CT. He enjoyed watching “The Price is Right,” Dallas Cowboys, U-Conn men & womens basketball, and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.

Robert and Margaret enjoyed their yearly trips to Iowa and the Black Hills in South Dakota with Robert’s two sisters, Carolyn and Clarice and her husband, Marlin, which they did for 21 wonderful years.

In addition to his wife of 58 years, Robert is survived by his six children: Sons: Michael and his wife, Mary Goehring of Bristol, CT; Robert and his wife, Kathleen Goehring of Haverhill, MA.; Kevin and his wife Linda Goehring of Farmington, CT.; Patrick Goehring and Denise Lewis of Eagle Grove, IA. Daughters: Ann Marie Goehring of Avon, Ct.; Piper Goehring of East Hartford, CT.; Sisters: Carolyn Goehring of Webster City, IA.; Clarice Coghlan and her husband, Marlin of Webster City, IA. Brother: Richard and his wife Ann Goehring of Goshen, Ky.; Six Grandchildren: Aidan, Enya, Joshua, Melissa, Taylor and Trevor; A great-granddaughter: Madison; Niece: Lelia and her husband, Ed Kim, of Irving, TX.; Nephew: Daniel and his wife Danielle Goehring of Cary, N.C.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Violet (Chalfant) Goehring.

Robert will be extremely missed by his family, co-workers, close friends and all those who were fortunate to have known this thoughtful, kind and gentle man.

Friends and relatives called at the Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville, CT on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral procession from the Ahern Funeral Home was on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at 9:15 a.m. followed by the Funeral Liturgy in the Church of St. Mary Star of the Sea, Unionville, CT. at 10:00 a.m. Burial with fully military honors was in St. Mary Cemetery, Avon, CT.
