Downtown celebration for RVTV set
Webster City residents are invited to show their Hawkeye or Cyclone spirit on Wednesday as the community welcomes Keith Murphy and Andy Fales from WHO-TV. They have asked the community to be a part of RVTV, a five-day event that sends the sportscasters to Iowa five towns the week of the Iowa/Iowa State football game. Deb Brown, Chamber director, said Webster City Area Chamber of Commerce is working to provide a family friendly event and to showcase the community at its best.
Murphy and Fales are scheduled to arrive between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., and are set to be escorted by the police and fire department to the downtown area, Brown said. The two will then conduct a radio show from 2 to 4 p.m. from the Chamber office.
Beginning at 4 p.m., tailgating will begin downtown, but Brown said people can start setting up after 2 p.m. Also at 4 p.m., Portapottie voting begins, she said, and urged local residents to come out and vote for their favorite team. Music in the park will begin at 4 p.m., provided by a DJ. A bounce house will open at the corner of Second and Des Moines Streets at 4 p.m. Iowa and Iowa State cupcakes will be sold beginning at 4 p.m. until they are gone.
The Kid Zone End Zone will be set up from 4 to 7 p.m. and Herky and Cy will be live on the street from 4 to 6 p.m. At 5 p.m., Doodlebug races will be held downtown. Tug of War and Bean Bag contests are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. downtown. Chili chefs will compete with their best chili recipes in a cook-off, scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Follow that up with smores cooked over fire pits on the street, Brown said, from 8 to 10 p.m. The Dance Connection will perform at 7 p.m.
Throughout the evening, the RVTV crew will be doing live broadcasts at 5, 6 and 10 p.m.
Brown said that downtown areas will be closed to traffic – from Willson Avenue on Second Street to Des Moines Street on Second Street and Second Street to First Street on Des Moines Street.
