‘Super’ renovations

A free lunch is planned at the Webster City Super 8 Monday to give the public a chance to check out recent renovations to the motel.

Bobby Shah, General Manager of the Webster City Super 8, took ownership of the business in August of 2012. From the outset, Shah said he knew the motel would need to be renovated.

“We did the hard work to make the rooms better than the Super 8 requirements,” Shah said. “We’re making it the best that we can.”

Work began at the motel last winter and is continuing at Super 8. Last year, Shah said they renovated the main floor of the motel and plan to continue work with the upstairs rooms this winter.

Much of the pool area has been renovated at the motel. The ceiling has been redone and Shah said he plans to improve the interior of the pool with a new coat of paint and refurbish the pool’s restrooms. Shah has also installed a pool lift, a device with a seat that can lower a person into the pool with a remote, which makes the pool handicap accessible.

The rooms themselves have also seen several changes. Shah has replaced older, “box” televisions with flatscreen televisions. New bedding, curtains and more are being installed. Some of the starkest changes can be seen in what Shah calls the honeymoon suite. The suite features a couch, wall mounted television, in-room hot tub, a freshly renovated bathroom and king-sized bed. Shah said that the first couple who stayed in the newly renovated suite gave a very positive impression of the renovations.

Planned renovations that Shah will work on this winter include changes to the entrance area. Currently, the front office sits right next to the breakfast area. Shah said the front office will be fully remodeled and the breakfast dining area will be in its own room. Shah said he hopes the Monday lunch will give community members a fresh look at what his motel has to offer.

The public is invited to the showcase on Monday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. with lunch catered by 2nd Street Emporium.
