Trojets trip Cadets for second time, jump over .500 in ISC play

LATIMER – Northeast Hamilton and CAL went back-and-forth in an Iowa Star Conference volleyball marathon here last night, yet it was the Trojets who celebrated last.

Down 2-1, NEH rallied to take the fourth and fifth sets and beat CAL for the second time this season, 25-21, 20-25, 22-25, 25-13, 15-13.

“We both went on runs periodically throughout the (match) and I was really proud that we never gave up,” NEH head coach Kacey Pruismann said. “We didn’t play scared to lose; we just wanted it really badly.”

NEH (6-13, 3-2 ISC) rallied from a four-point deficit in the final set.

Freshman Devyn Van Kooten powered the Trojets with 11 kills and two blocks. Andi Anderson peppered 10 kills and Kaylee Massman connected for eight. Taylor Olson was also key; she had six kills and eight digs.

Libero Jaidyn Timm led the defense with 25 digs.

“I was really impressed with how Devyn played and I was really thankful that Jaidyn broke into a more aggressive back-row libero role,” Pruismann said.
