Hawks rip Colfax-Mingo in 3 sets

COLFAX – The kills came early and often for the South Hamilton volleyball team here last night in a 3-0 sweep of Heart of Iowa Conference rival Colfax-Mingo.

Middle hitters Tiffany Jacobson and Savana Stangeland swatted 11 and four kills, respectively, and Ady Wintermote and Alyssa Hegland hammered five each on the perimeter to lead the Hawks (9-10, 3-3 HOIC) to a 25-15, 25-18, 25-13 victory over the Tigerhawks (1-12, 0-3 HOIC).

“I was happy with our quick offense,” South Hamilton head coach Cindy Holmes said. “The setters used our middles pretty well and that kept us playing high-spirited and excited. Colfax played hard and kept the ball alive, so we had to earn our points.”

Kenzie Busch (11) and Molly Minich (10) combined to deliver 21 assists.

Libero Hannah Pulis collected 11 digs and four service aces. Jacobson added five aces, while Wintermote and Busch had three each.

South Hamilton was stingy at net; Jacobson, Wintermote, Stangeland and Hegland all had five blocks.

The Hawks will travel to Alleman next Tuesday to take on North Polk.
