Trojets sweep SEW-G, advance in 1A regional

BURNSIDE – Southeast Webster-Grand entered the postseason with just one victory under its belt and it just so happened to be against its Class 1A first-round regional opponent.

Northeast Hamilton made sure lightning didn’t strike twice.

The Trojets controlled play throughout and were never in serious jeopardy of dropping a set, as they advanced to the Region 4 quarterfinal round with a 3-0 sweep, 25-17, 25-20, 25-22, on the Eagles’ home floor.

“The scores don’t necessarily reflect the momentum we had,” NEH head coach Kacey Pruismann said. “We never appeared worried, which was pleasant to see.”

NEH (8-19) bombarded SEW-G (1-23) with a constant dose of Andi Anderson at net. The sophomore hitter went on the attack 33 times, made just two errors and accumulated a match-high 13 kills.

“Andi was exceptional with her court vision and made smart choices with the ball,” Pruismann said.

Kaylee Massman chipped in five kills and Devyn Van Kooten hammered down four.

Lillian Chamness distributed 17 of the team’s 29 assists. Massman again showed her versatility with seven assists and four digs.

Taylor Olson collected 11 digs, five assists and three kills. Libero Jaidyn Timm came up with 10 digs and Anderson finished with nine.

NEH accumulated six service aces, led by Chamness and Leah Meyer with two.

The Trojets will have a week to prepare for AGWSR (7-23). The two teams will square off in Ackley next Tuesday for the right to advance to the regional semifinal.

“I’m hopeful our next pairing of AGWSR could go well if we play like (last night) and all the way through each (set) without pulling off the gas,” Pruismann said.
