1A REGIONAL VOLLEYBALL: AGWSR makes quick work of Trojets
ACKLEY – AGWSR Ackley took just seven victories into the postseason and after watching the Cougars, Northeast Hamilton head coach Kacey Pruismann was left to ponder one question.
How the heck did that happen?
Despite a regular season of struggles, AGWSR performed like a team on a mission here last night, as the Cougars ousted the Trojets from Class 1A Region 4 in less than an hour.
AGWSR (8-23) dominated at net and refused to give an inch on the Trojets’ attacks in a 25-5, 25-7, 25-8 victory.
“What a great team. Their record surely doesn’t reflect their talent level,” Pruismann said after the second-round defeat. “We knew coming in that they had a slew of good hitters to pick from, but their defense was also tough.”
NEH (8-20) managed just six kills in the match. Kaylee Massman and Andi Anderson both smacked three. Lillian Chamness owned the assist on half of the kills.
Massman led the team defensively with seven digs. Taylor Olson contributed six and libero Jaidyn Timm added five.
The Trojets only had the serve for 19 points and no player got more than five swings from behind the line. Timm notched the team’s only ace.
The loss was the end of the line for NEH seniors Timm, Massman and Olson. Pruismann says saying goodbye to them was the toughest thing to accept.
“I’m so proud of my seniors and I couldn’t bear to see them walk off for the last time,” Pruismann said.
