Celebrating small business
Wedged in between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Small Business Saturday is designed to celebrate shopping local small businesses. The Webster City Area Chamber of Commerce has partnered with American Express to offer shoppers more reasons to stay in town Saturday and shop small.
According to Sustainable Connections, there are many reasons to patronize local businesses. Several studies have shown that when shoppers buy from independent, locally-owned businesses, significantly more money is used to make purchases from other local businesses, service providers and farms. Non-profit organizations receive an average of 250 percent more support from smaller businesses than they do from large businesses, according to Sustainable Connections. Additionally, local businesses are typically owned by people who live in this area, are more invested in the community’s future and are less likely to leave. Research shows that in an increasingly homogenized world, entrepreneurs and skilled workers are more likely to invest and settle in communities that preserve their one-of-a-kind businesses and distinctive character.
Small Business Saturday is a chance to support those small family-run businesses and unique shops. Shoppers who patronize Webster City businesses this Saturday may receive a reward for their support.
