GIRLS HOOPS: No. 5 Nevada puts 50-point beating on SH?girls
JEWELL – Fifth-ranked (Class 3A) Nevada threw up a first-quarter goose egg while scoring 21 points in a 67-17 rout of South Hamilton Tuesday evening on Coach Jim Marsh Court.
The Cubs (2-1, 2-0 HOIC) rained in nine 3-point buckets – Megan Pringnitz had four and Jessica Helton hit three – to set the stage for the 50-point victory.
“They’re a good team, but I still say we’re a work in progress,” South Hamilton head coach Kathi Fisher said. “We have a lot of potential that we haven’t tapped into yet. Right now (the girls) are just so used to getting beat up that they don’t go out there thinking they can compete. So confidence is one thing we have to instill in them.”
Nevada held a 33-6 advantage at halftime.
Carly Swenson provided South Hamilton (0-2, 0-2 HOIC) with some long-distance support. She canned three 3s for her nine points. Savana Stangeland and Kayla Lucas both finished with three points.
Helton (18), Kati Cassabaum (13) and Pringnitz (12) all scored in double figures for the Cubs.
South Hamilton will travel to the north side of Des Moines to face Saydel on Friday.
