Rader routs 132-pound field at Doug Wood Invite

MANSON – Nine South Hamilton wrestlers placed in the top six at their respective weights and the Hawks scored 120 points to place seventh at Saturday’s Doug Wood Invitational.

Ogden (198 points) edged host Manson-Northwest Webster (194) for the team title; Alta-Aurelia (165) was third in the 10-team field.

“I thought our team wrestled really well for our first tournament of the year,” South Hamilton head coach Dan Brodie said. “We had some inexperienced guys really step up and improve.”

Junior JD Rader claimed South Hamilton’s lone individual title, as he dominated the 132-pound weight class with a pin and major-decision victory. The two-time Class 1A state place winner roughed up Ogden’s eighth-ranked Kolby Munson of Ogden, 12-4, in the championship round.

Rader is ranked sixth at 126.

“It’s nice to get JD some quality matches early in the season and he’s taking advantage of that,” Brodie said. “He’s showing where he wants to be at the end of the year.”

Hawks’ heavyweight Josh Lutter also navigated his way to the finals and placed second.

Bronze medalists included Luke Peters (138), Austin Roys (145) and Max Reiter (152). Charlie Reiter (126) was fourth, Dean Larson (220) placed fifth, and Preston Luksetich (120) and Jordan Toillion (152) were sixth.

“I was really proud of Dean Larson. He picked up a couple of big wins for us,” Brodie said. “And I was excited for Charlie Reiter and Austin Roys. They both got a pin in matches they were behind in.”
