Hill lights up Saydel, Hawks remain unbeaten

DES MOINES – South Hamilton got the offensive spurt it needed at crunch time here Friday night to remain unbeaten in a Heart of Iowa Conference boys’ basketball game.

The Hawks (2-0, 2-0 HOIC) outscored Saydel 16-9 in the fourth quarter to overcome a 39-37 deficit and prevail, 53-48. The Hawks’ defense stifled and shutout the Eagles (1-1, 1-1 HOIC) over the initial four minutes of the final period and built their lead to as big as seven.

Collin Hill came up big at the offensive end of the floor for South Hamilton with a game-high 21 points to go along with eight rebounds. He canned a pair of 3-pointers.

Matt Hislop reached double figures as well with 11 points. Zach Puls chipped in nine points and center Andrew Wintermote did a little bit of everything and concluded the contest with eight points, 11 boards and four steals.

Saydel got the majority of its scoring from Kyle Walter (17) and Alex Gustafson (14). They combined to drain five 3s.

The Eagles held a slim 22-21 advantage at the intermission.

South Hamilton will go for the early-season hat trick Tuesday night when it hosts Prairie City-Monroe.
