An international holiday festival is planned for Saturday at All Cultures Equal, 1440 E. Second St., and the community is invited to share in treats, music, games and Christmas dcor from all around the world.
The festival will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. and is part of the Webster City Winter Wonderland events. There is no charge to attend.
ACE Director Janet Toering said the festival is an opportunity to inspire the holiday spirit, heighten global awareness and celebration cultural traditions.
“We’ve got food coming in from many different countries traditional ethnic treats,” she said. While not every treat is specifically holiday in nature, all are representative of a different culture, she added.
When it comes to the food, Toering said there would be items from Central American, Laotian, Danish, Russian and other cultures. And more food items are welcome, according to Toering.
“We’ve kind of turned this into a potluck. They don’t have to call me ahead of time,” she said. “If anyone would like to share treats from their favorite family recipe or from their heritage, they can just bring them out to the festival.”
She asked those bringing food to share the name of the dish and the country of origin.
The ACE building will be decked for the holidays with decorations and the festival will feature music from various countries. Currently there are four decorated trees which were used a few weeks ago for the Festival of Trees. Toering said she expected more decorations to be shared.
“We’re going to also have games,” she said. The multi-cultural ACE board will be bringing in several different games for people to try. Many of them are common to several cultures, Toering said.
“The purpose of the event is to bring everyone together in a relaxing atmosphere to talk about heritage and we can celebrate and have fun,” she said. Those involved in the organizing have enjoyed working together on the music, decorations and games, she added.
