SH boys storm ahead early, drill Colfax-Mingo by 49

JEWELL – Run, shoot, swish.

Rinse and repeat.

The South Hamilton boys’ basketball team did everything it wanted on Coach Jim Marsh Court Friday night, as the Hawks scored at will and splashed in nine 3-point baskets in a 83-34 demolition of Heart of Iowa Conference rival Colfax-Mingo.

The Hawks (3-1, 3-1 HOIC) – coming off their first loss to No. 7-ranked (Class 2A) PCM three nights earlier – put the Tigerhawks (0-5, 0-4 HOIC) in the rearview mirror early on with a 28-7 first-quarter run.

South Hamilton increased its advantage to 41-17 by the half.

No one had more fun than senior shooting guard Trevor Ullestad. He buried five triples and led five Hawks in double figures with 23 points.

Ullestad also contributed seven assists and four steals.

Matt Hislop trotted off the floor for the final time with 14 points and nine assists. Ross Enderson poured in 11 points, and Collin Hill and Andrew Wintermote both finished with 10.

Wintermote yanked down a team-high seven boards. Hill had five steals.

Jacob Leitz paced Colfax-Mingo with 13 points.

South Hamilton will return to its home floor on Tuesday to take on Greene County.
