Filling up the pantry

Thousands of food items have been gathered at a Webster City school to donate to a local food pantry.

Students at Webster City Middle School gathered a total of 2,298 items to donate to the Upper Des Moines Opportunity food bank. Classes from fifth to eighth grade competed to see who could donate the most items.

To celebrate those classes that gave hundreds of items and totaled the most in their grade level, students gathered in the school commons on Tuesday morning to build the donated items from their grade levels into small works of art.

WCMS Principal Becky Hacker-Kluver said the food drive construction event was a fun way to celebrate their giving to those in need this holiday season. She said the constructed food items will be sent to the UDMO food bank in the following days.
