Festival of Chocolate returns
A tasty fundraiser and chocolate baking contest is returning for 2014.
The Friends of the Library Festival of Chocolate is back for its second year on Jan. 26 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Kendall Young Library.
The event will host chocolate dishes created by community members. An entry fee for the public will help raise funds to support library events and programs, such as the annual Family Game Night. Awards will be given by judges and a people’s choice award will also be given.
The library is currently seeking entries for the contest. Participants can enter in one or more of four categories: brownies and bars, cakes and cupcakes, confections and candy, and cookies.
Entrants are admitted for free to the festival.
Desserts must use chocolate, but can do so in a way that includes chocolate chips, icing, white chocolate and more. Frozen desserts are not allowed.
Items must be placed in a disposable pan and cut into one-inch pieces. Each entrant must supply 50 one-inch pieces. Cookies or cupcakes can be made bite-sized or cut into fourths. Bakers must also supply a list of ingredients to alert people with food allergies.
The deadline to enter is Jan. 17. Entries must be brought to the library between noon and 1 p.m. on the day of the festival. Awards will be presented at 3 p.m. Last year, winners were given 10 dollars in Webster City bucks and second place winners received a book on the history of the library.
Forms may be mailed or brought to Kendall Young Library or emailed to email@example.com. For more information, contact the library at 832-9100.
