Hawks dominate 4 matches, not enough in dual loss to Gilbert
JEWELL – Gilbert won six of 10 matches and picked up an additional 24 points on forfeits to secure a Heart of Iowa Conference dual victory over South Hamilton here Tuesday evening
South Hamilton received victories from its usual suspects, but was again unable to overcome the four holes in its lineup in the 48-23 setback.
Third-ranked (Class 1A) JD Rader (132 pounds), Austin Roys (145), Max Reiter (160) and Josh Lutter (285) claimed wins on the mat for the Hawks, and all four added bonus points to the team’s haul.
Rader remained unbeaten on the season with a clinical dissection of Stephen Moore. Rader turned Moore multiple times and racked up an 18-2 technical fall 36 seconds into the third period.
Roys, Reiter and Lutter all won by fall. Roys decked Chandler Neumann in 3:52, Reiter needed just 1:57 to dispose of Jaden Gasstedt and Lutter pancaked Eli Harris in 1:03.
Seniors Roys, Reiter, Lutter and 152-pounder Jordan Toillion competed on their home mat for the final time. Toillion suffered a tight 5-3 loss to Tristan Gibson.
“I thought we definitely put a show on for our fans and I was proud of the way our seniors went out and wrestled,” South Hamilton head coach Dan Brodie said. “All four of them wrestled well.”
South Hamilton will take part in the Pocahontas Area tournament on Saturday at 10 a.m. and will then close out the regular season with a quadrangular against Manson-Northwest Webster, Southeast Webster-Grand and West Hancock next Tuesday in Britt.
