Rams build 40-13 halftime lead, stroll by Hawks

JEFFERSON – Nothing the South Hamilton girls’ basketball team did seemed to work here Tuesday night in a lopsided Heart of Iowa Conference loss.

Greene County sunk seven 3-pointers and scored 19 or more points in all four quarters in a 78-36 throttling of the Hawks.

“I really thought we could compete with Greene County better than we did,” South Hamilton head coach Kathi Fisher said. “I give Greene County credit. Their shooters came out on fire; they were lighting up 3s from everywhere.”

Emily Christensen was the biggest thorn in the Hawks’ side, as she rattled in five triples and scored a game-high 23 points. Kayla Mobley added 17 and seven other Rams contributed to the scoring.

Greene County (9-7, 8-6 HOIC) put the game away by the half, courtesy of a 40-13 lead.

Savana Stangeland was productive again for South Hamilton (1-16, 1-14 HOIC) with 18 points and 10 rebounds, but no other Hawk scored more than five.
