Ullestad goes bonkers behind arc, Hawks rally by CMB
BAXTER – At this point in the season opposing teams should know that leaving Trevor Ullestad open behind the 3-point arc is not a good idea.
Collins-Maxwell-Baxter apparently didn’t get the memo.
Already the Heart of Iowa Conference leader in triples made, Ullestad rained in eight more here last night to help South Hamilton overcome an 18-point second-quarter deficit and stun the Raiders, 75-69.
The Hawks (16-3, 14-2 HOIC) – winners of nine consecutive contests – maintained the top spot on the conference leaderboard with just two games remaining.
Ullestad – now toting 59 3s on the season – finished with 24 points and was the ring leader of 12 3-pointers, one more than South Hamilton tallied inside the arc. Matt Hislop drained two 3s on his way to 20 points, and Collin Hill added a pair and 15 points.
Bryce Kemp led CMB (13-5, 10-5 HOIC) with 23 points. Two other Raiders – Austin Moorman (16) and Zach Samson (15) – scored in double figures as well.
CMB jumped all over the Hawks early en route to a 19-6 lead after the opening period. South Hamilton scored 20 or more points in each of the final three quarters, including 28 over the final eight minutes.
South Hamilton will return home tonight to face rival and potential Class 2A district opponent Roland-Story.
