Art for two
A guided painting class this week will also serve as a fundraiser for Legacy Learning Boone River Valley programs.
Jessica Furman, of Art & Soul, will host the “It Takes Two” painting class on Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Briggs Woods Golf Course Club House. With Valentine’s Day following the day after the class, Furman invites couples and friends to come and create a dual-canvas painting.
Following Furman’s instructions, pairs of people can create two paintings meant to be hung next to each other. Participants can also follow along and create the painting on a single canvas. Maureen Seamonds said the class is a lot of fun.
“Without a lot of stress or thought, you can make a pretty nice painting in an evening,” Seamonds said.
The cost of registration for each canvas is $35. Briggs Woods will also serve snacks and drinks. To sign up, call Briggs Woods at 832-9570, or register online at mycountyparks.com. Seamonds said some of the money raised from the class will help fund other programs and classes through Legacy Learning at Briggs Woods.
The painting class is one of many that Furman has hosted since October of 2013. Since then, she has hosted about two public classes each month and several private painting parties. Furman said she was honored to have Seamonds, her former art teacher at Iowa Central Community College, ask her to host a class at Briggs Woods.
“It let me know that she has a lot of faith and respect for what I do,” Furman said.
