Boil order issued for Stanhope
STANHOPE The city of Stanhope has issued a boil advisory due to a water main break Friday. The water system will lose pressure as repairs are made, which can allow bacteria to enter the drinking water.
The boil advisory will remain in effect until two sets of bacteria samples are determined to be clean. Until then, the DNR and the city advise residents to boil water used for drinking or cooking, or to use bottled water.
Residents should bring the water to a boil, boil it for one minute and let it cool before using it for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth and preparing food. They can use tap water for bathing and similar purposes.
Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms. Bacteria in drinking water may pose greater health risks for infants, young children, some of the elderly and people with compromised immune systems.??Find more information at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Safe Drinking Water Hotline, 800-427-4791.??The city or Department of Natural Resources will notify residents when the water is safe to drink.
