Trojans bow out in 1A quarters, 49-40

ACKLEY – Three players accounted for all but two of North Butler’s points in a Class 1A District 4 quarterfinal here Saturday evening, but they were all the Bearcats needed to advance.

Shaylon Lahr scored from the perimeter and in the paint to the tune of 26 points, Jaret Wunsch hit three 3-pointers and scored 11, and Todd Dolan added 10 in the Bearcats’ 49-40 victory over Northeast Hamilton.

“They did a good job of finding the creases in our zone,” NEH head coach John Seiser said. “(Lahr) did a great job of exposing that.”

North Butler (11-8) led wire-to-wire. The Bearcats held a 22-18 advantage at the half and ever-so slowly extended the lead over the final 16 minutes thanks to critical NEH (7-15) mistakes in crucial situations.

“We got the shots we wanted, we just didn’t knock them down,” Seiser said. “And at inopportune times we had turnovers that hurt us.”

NEH was just 2 of 14 shooting behind the arc; Nick Jeffers was 2 of 4 and scored 15 points, but the rest of the roster was 0 of 12.

Logan Seiser finished his career with another quality performance. His 22nd double-double of the season included 19 points and 13 rebounds; he also put up four assists, four blocks and three steals.

North Butler advanced to Tuesday’s semifinal round against AGWSR in Grundy Center.
