David Murray Fretz, 54, Mosier, Oregon

Dave Fretz passed away Feb. 28, 2014 after a valiant 4 year battle with brain cancer.

David was born May 17, 1959 in Ontario, Canada. In 1968, his family moved to Webster City, Iowa, a member of Asbury Methodist Church, and WC Country Club playing golf daily.

At WCHS, Dave excelled in marching/ concert/ jazz bands playing trombone, mixed chorus/madrigal/boys glee choirs, dramas, varsity golf team, Model United Nations, and art. He worked for his father at the Aberdeen Angus Journal, graduated in 1977, and attended Drake University as a music major.

Dave worked at the Red Angus Journal in Denton, Texas and in 1981 moved to Portland Oregon to work with his parents at the Western States Angus Journal.

Dave started a hobby store in Hood River and a computer graphic design business designing ads and magazines with his father until his passing. He played trombone with several jazz groups and assisted daily at The Dalles HS where he shared his passion and knowledge of instrumental music.

Dave never married or had children of his own but was friends with everyone he met, also reaching out to those he perceived as neglected by society.

Dave was preceded in death by his mother Shirley in 1994 and his grandparents from Ontario, Canada. Surviving family, all in Oregon, are his father Murray and wife Beverly, sister Nancy (Fretz) Hinderks, brother Grant Fretz, nephew Jay Hinderks (Jami) and children Carter and Madelynn. Plus numerous relatives throughout Canada.

A celebration of Life will be on David’s 55th birthday in Hood River Oregon. Remembrances may be shared on his community Facebook page – I Remember You David Fretz.
