Energy assistance available

The 2013-2014 Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) has been established to help qualifying low-income Iowa homeowners and renters pay for a portion of their primary heating costs for the winter heating season.

Applications are taken through April 30.

The program is not designed to pay a households total energy costs. The program will provide supplemental assistance based on several factors, including:

total household income,

household size

dwelling type

type of heating fuel and other factors.

Households over the LIHEAP regular income guidelines may be eligible for benefits through the medical waiver component. The medical expenses must be documented, paid and non-reimbursable.

If you have already applied and have been approved this winter season, you cannot reapply, according to officials.
