Groups donate to buy athletes clothes

Local athletes in the Special Olympics will be wearing new clothes as they begin trials next week thanks to the generosity of several donors.

LuAnn Jackson, owner of Embroidery by Design in Webster City, said the full wind suits that donors helped purchase will be useful for the athletes who are students at Webster City Middle School.

“We’ve had so many rainy, cool days and they really needed something other than the T-shirts and shorts that they were wearing,” Jackson said. “We just decided it was time for them to have something and asked these places and they were more than willing to donate.”

LuAnn and Denny Jackson personalized the wind suits for the athletes. Donors included Sparky’s of Stanhope, the Iowa Troopers Association, Webster City Medical Services, the Hamilton County Peace Officers Association, Jim Bergland of Stratford and Webster City RV.

The athletes will be sporting their new wind suits along with big smiles on April 16 for time trials in their events.
