Hawks place in 10 events in debut

GILBERT – The South Hamilton girls’ track team kicked off its outdoor season with 10 scoring events at last night’s Gilbert Coed Invitational.

The Hawks earned three medals and placed in five individual events and five relays amidst challenging conditions that included frigid temperatures and blustery winds.

Official team results weren’t available as of press time.

The sprint medley quartet of Kali Lucas, Alissa Moss, Ady Wintermote and Meghan Fisher scooped up a silver medal for the Hawks, as they completed the two laps in 2:02.57.

Lucas, Wintermote and Fisher teamed up with Allyson Ervin to place third in the distance medley (4:38.67).

Ervin claimed a piece of bronze all for herself in the 400 low hurdles (1:14.74).

Kali Lucas also placed fourth in the long jump (14 feet, 4 inches) and sixth in the 200 (29.57). Twin sister Kayla Lucas – the team’s distance specialist – took fifth in the 1,500 (5:46.76) and sixth in the 3,200 (12:49.02).

South Hamilton was fifth in the 4×200, 4×400 and 4×800 relays.

The Hawks will host their own coed invitational on Thursday.
