TENNIS: WCHS girls roll in singles, opening dual

HAMPTON – A rock-solid outing on the singles and doubles courts paved the way to an easy night for the Webster City girls’ tennis team here yesterday afternoon.

Five victories in singles put the dual out of reach, but the Lynx went on to win two of three doubles bouts anyway to score a 7-2 rout of Hampton-Dumont.

“It was good to get the first-meet jitters out and you could tell at the beginning we had them,” WCHS head coach Heather Kierzek said. “But the girls settled down and played well.”

Lynne Chalfant, Courtney Lampman, Olivia Tasler, Olicnca Padierna and Sierra Anderson all scored singles wins for the Lynx.

Tasler teamed up with Rhianna Wood, while Jordann Nagel and Ashley Richardson stepped onto the court for the first time to score doubles wins.

“Six of my eight girls have never played varsity, so they did well,” Kierzek said.

WCHS will play at home next Thursday against Grundy Center.
